“Girls in ICT” Day 2013:
International “Girls in ICT Day,” is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of April every year and is an initiative backed by the ITU Member States in Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Guadalajara, 2010) to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies (ICTs).
With the encouragement from Mr. Brahima Sanou, Director, BDT, ITU, the contribution of girls in ICT is being recognized though observing the 25th April 2013 as the “International Girls in ICT day”. Building on the success of Girls in ICT Day 2012, when nearly 90 countries raised awareness among girls and young women, teachers and career advisers of the excellent job prospects in the ICT sector, empowering more than 30,000 girls worldwide. The support from ITU will further give added impetus to the Girls in ICT initiative, by reaching out to and involving more girls and young women in ICT careers and encouraging ICT companies worldwide to recruit, retain and promote women.
The CMAI along with ITU-APT Foundation of India have decided to organize “Girls in ICT Day 2013” on 7th May 2013 at FICCI Auditorium. It is so befitting that Dr. Hamadoun Toure, Honorable Secretary General, ITU accompanied by Dr. Eun-Ju Kim, Director ITU Office for Asia Pacific would be visiting New Delhi on 6-7 May 2013, New Delhi.
The program would be attended by young professional in ICT, Industry stalwarts, government officials, women entrepreneurs and leaders form civil society engaged on ICT initiatives for women empowerment. We would also invite applications for innovation undertaken by young girls their respective areas. To consider them for “Girl Innovator award”. The awardees will get an award .
